Degage Ballet
Degage [ day-ga-ZHAY] Disengaging step. Degage pointing of the foot in an open position, fully arched instep. Do not transfer weight. Degage is performed devant, a la seconde and derriere and all the directions of the ballet body.
Degage a la quatrieme devant en Fair (croisee) en tournant en dehors [ day-ga-ZHAY a lah ka-tree-EM duh-VAHN ahn lehr (krwah-ZAY) ahn toor-NAHN ahn duh-AWR]. Degage to the fourth position front in the air (crossed), turning outward. A term of the Cecchetti method. From the position croise derriere en Fair, the dancer turns slowly en dehors on the flat of the foot, rotating the raised leg in the hip socket to the second position en Fair, then turns the body from the waist to finish in the position croise devant en Fair .See Detourne en Fair.
Degage a l’arabesque en tournant en dedans [ day-ga-ZHAY a la- ra-BESK ahn toor-NAHN ahn duh-DAHN] . Degage with arabesque turning inward. A term of the Cecchetti method. The dancer stands in the position croise devant en Fair and slowly turns en dedans on the flat of the foot, passing the raised leg to the second position en Fair, then turning the body from the waist and rotating the raised leg in the hip socket. Degage en Fair [ day-ga-ZHAY ahn lehr]. Degage in the air. The raising of a leg a la demi-hauteur, devant, a la seconde or derriere.
